Our Principal

Welcome Foxes!

I am extremely honored to be the educational leader at Oliver Hazard Perry Elementary with its rich history in our hometown of San Diego, CA.  I was born and raised in Santa Barbara, California. I attended the University of Southern California, where I obtained my Bachelor of Science degree and my teaching credential. I moved to San Diego in 1987, and I obtained my Master of Education degree from San Diego State University and started working for San Diego Unified School District in 1987 as well.

My journey with San Diego Unified School District has been a long one and I have been able to work with many students throughout my career.  I started in San Diego Unified School District as teacher in 1987 at Marvin Elementary school teaching 5th and 6th grade. After 13 years as a classroom teacher at Marvin Elementary I moved to Vista Grande Elementary School and taught 4th grade for another 12 years.  I worked in the central office as a Program Manager for History/Social Science for San Diego Unified and was fortunate enough to work with many history teachers in the district.  I then moved to De Portola Middle School and was a Vice Principal for two years where I developed my skills at managing a school.  I was fortunate enough to become the principal at Perry Elementary School in 2016.

It was my parents who showed me the power of an education. I have always wanted to be a teacher, because as a child, I saw education as one of the most powerful tools that a person can obtain. My parents worked hard together in the small business they built, and they showed my brothers and myself the importance of pursuing our goals and making our dreams come true.  As a child I was inspired by my parents' passion and dedication to work together for the good of their family and to always be a role model to my sibling and myself.  It was extremely powerful to witness the difference an education made for my parents and our entire family.

I want our students at Perry to leave our school with a strong education so they have choices in life, choices of where to go next, and opportunities to accomplish their goals and dreams. At Perry Elementary, we do our best work every day for our students, staff, parents, and our community to ensure that we help students acquire the skills and tools on which to build a strong educational foundation. We are building success here at Perry. Please feel free to contact me at (619)860-5300 or [email protected].
